National Open Science Infrastructure
Foundation national infrastrukture Open Science represent policies European Research Area (ERA), Resolution on the Slovenian Scientific Research and Innovation Strategy 2030 (Official Gazette of the Republic of Slovenia, No. 49/22); hereinafter referred to as: resolution) and Scientific Research and Innovation Activity Act (Official Gazette of the Republic of Slovenia, No. 186/21, 40/23, 102/24 and 40/25). Open Science Infrastructure is defined in the Resolution and in the Decree on the Implementation of Scientific Research Work in Accordance with the Principles of Open Science (Official Gazette of the Republic of Slovenia, No. 59/23 and 39/25).
Open Science Infrastructure
Existing Open Science Infrastructure consists of:
- Trusted repositories of organisations for the preservation of open access scientific publications, research data and other research results.
- Domain and general data centres with trusted repositories.
- Open access scientific publications (e.g. portals journals and monographs ZRC SAZU publishing house and journals of university publishing houses, e.g. University of Ljubljana Press, University of Maribor Press and University of Primorska Press),
- Other digital services (e.g. dLib) and resources needed or generated by scientific research work in accordance with the principles of open science.
- National Open Science Portal - search engine and aggregator of digital objects.
Repositories
A repository is a digital space for storing and making accessible digital objects described by standardised metadata. A scientific publications repository provides storage and access to digital scientific literature, regardless of where it was first published, while a data repository provides storage and access to different types of data, e.g. research data and related documentation.
There are several types of repositories, namely:
Institutional repositories
An institutional repository is managed by an institution on its own terms and provides storage and access to the digital objects of researchers and others conducting research under the auspices of that institution. The purpose of institutional repositories is, inter alia, to store digital forms of research outputs, e.g. scientific publications, research data, software, etc.).
Institutional repositories are:
- Repository of University of Ljubljana (RUL).
- Digital Library of University of Maribor (DKUM).
- Repository of University of Primorska (RUP).
- Repository University of Nova Gorica (RUNG).
- Repository of Independent Higher and Post-secondary Education Organisations (ReVIS).
- Digital Repository of Slovenian Research Organisations (DiRROS).

The Open Library offers the following services in the area of Open Science Infrastructure management:
- Assistance in choosing a repository.
- Advice on how to store digital objects in a repository.
- Information on trusted repositories,
- Administrative and technical assistance in the use of the repository.
- Conducting training sessions.
