Citizen science is a concept of scientific research that involves the participation of non-professional researchers in all stages of the research process. These projects are open to students, members of various interest groups, individuals from local communities, retired people and anyone interested in contributing to scientific progress, whatever their professional background. Citizen researchers can be involved in formulating research questions, collecting and generating data, analysing data and interpreting results. To be classified as scientific research, citizen science projects must follow the basic principles of research. These include honesty, objectivity, integrity, rigour, openness to peer review, respect for intellectual property and ensuring confidentiality of data. Citizen science is now one of the key tools for bringing together scientists and the wider public, and for enabling a more inclusive and collaborative approach to research.

Main purpose Slovenian Citizen Science network is to promote citizen science in Slovenia. The members of the network are organisations and individuals who wish to express their support for citizen science, can be promoters/implementers of citizen science projects, and also providers of open infrastructure to carry out citizen surveys.

The Open Library offers training and workshops for professional researchers who would like to integrate citizen science methods into their scientific project, as well as for individuals who would like to start a new citizen science project. They are also intended for various other organisations wishing to collaborate in the implementation of projects and the promotion of citizen science (associations, libraries, museums...).
